James Walker

 
Contemporary composer and conductor, James Walker, has pushed the boundaries of choral music by coupling electronic sounds with the magical stories of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” His Electronic Alice,  three works for mixed chorus, piano, amplified harpsichord and electronic sounds, have all received critical acclaim. The Electronic Alice: Part One – All in the Golden Afternoon and The Lobster Quadrille, was a featured work on Bill McGlaughlin’s Peabody Award-winning PBS program, “Saint Paul Sunday”.
 
Other works for chorus, solo instruments and piano, feature poetry by Americans E. E. Cummings and Eugene Field, as well as Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.
 
Walker has also created a series of instrumental works based on Medieval and Renaissance “cantus firmi”, lending a uniquely antique quality to more traditional contemporary sonorities.
